You and Dan C. have my vote of confidence, red tape from Microsoft or no. However, I would suggest taking a sticks-and-stones approach to anyone's personal feelings towards you, as it would be a more becoming stance in this public space. No one here is calling for your resignation. You don't need to feel like you are on the defensive.
