http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=7577 Summary: meta/@name=descriptions vs invisible metadata Product: HTML WG Version: unspecified Platform: PC OS/Version: Windows NT Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: HTML5 spec proposals AssignedTo: dave.null@w3.org ReportedBy: julian.reschke@gmx.de QAContact: public-html-bugzilla@w3.org CC: ian@hixie.ch, mike@w3.org, public-html@w3.org HTML5 defines meta/@name=description, and this is a good thing, as it is used in the wild, and actually used by search engines. However, it is a case of invisible metadata, and furthermore forces authors to repeat text that already appears somewhere else on the page. A link relation or a new container element <description> could address this. See <http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2009Aug/0990.html> for a proposal of a link relation. -- Configure bugmail: http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug.
