Your Bug 24168 on Longdesc Accepted

Dear Laura:

On behalf of the HTML-A11Y Task Force facilitators, I want to apologize
that we failed to follow through properly regarding your recent bug:

https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=24168

The comment filed on that bug indicated that we had accepted your proposed
edits to the HTML5 Image Description Extension specification, and that they had
been applied to the latest editors draft. We had indeed queued edits up.
However, the changeset did not get applied to the editor's draft available
online through some error on our part we've not yet identified. We want to
thank you for pointing this out.

Also, we may have been insufficiently precise in saying that we had accepted
your proposed change. We do strongly agree that we should use nonperjorative and
nonjudgemental terms in this document. We have replaced "modern" and
"better" with descriptive language. However, we do actually want to encourage
authors to use newer markup solutions in addition to longdesc. We believe this
is a stronger statement than asking them to consider these other markup approaches.

Because of this error, we will be extending the Call for Consensus in the
Task Force in order to give everyone the opportunity to review the actual
document we propose to promote on the recommendation track.

Janina, for the HTML-A11Y Task Force Facilitators
