Indeed it would be beneficial to use it in the design of a SKOS-ISOTHES extension as defined in the
mapping proposal published by the ISO 25964 WG.

Indeed, I had understood that this is a modification of SKOS. I've seen that the modification only
affect to the appendix and not SKOS itself.

The document seems very complete. I will keep to update the Spanish translation of SKOS Primer we
did.

I include as attachment the draft of the ontology that I mentioned. Perhaps it would be useful in
the design of the SKOS-ISOTHES extension.

I am not sure I understand fully, however: have you realized that the table which we propose to
include in the erratum [1] defines almost exactly what you recommend? I.e., it specifies a
SKOS-ISOTHES extension, and does not suggest any change of the existing SKOS constructs.

Hi all,

Our research group is finalizing an ontology based on ISO. The design is based on a careful analysis
of the new standard. Following the same we conclude that ISO 25964-1/2 is practically impossible to
map correctly with SKOS in the most important aspects.

The goal of the ontology we are designing is to make a bridge between the ISO and SKOS model. In
fact the model proposed by ISO lacks adequate semantics for drawing inferences.

In my opinion we should consider several points:

* First, SKOS is being so used because of its simplicity. SKOS provides all the basic principles of
knowledge organization systems. ISO includes all cases of use in the design of a thesaurus starting
from the most complex case. The current "core" of SKOS need not be modified.

* Second, the data model of ISO 25964-1/2 is very focused on storage of thesaurus data in a
relational database.

* Third, instead of changing SKOS, an extension could be designed similar to SKOS-XL
(SKOS-ISOTHES?). This extension should include (mainly) the compound equivalence of concepts,
labeled semantic relationships and mappings relationships described in 25964-1/2.

It would not be necessary to include a errata, as the basis of SKOS still based on ISO 2788/5964.
Maybe, designing an SKOS extension based on ISO 25964-1/2 could be a solution that maintains
interoperability of SKOS applications that have been made so far.

    ISO 25964-1, published in 2011, replaced the previous thesaurus standards ISO 2788 and ISO 5964
(both now withdrawn). Members of the Working Group responsible for ISO 25964 have gone on to
consider the implications for SKOS users. They have developed a set of linkages between the elements
of the ISO 25964 data model and the ones from SKOS [1], SKOS-XL [2], and MADS/RDF [3]. This new
"Correspondence between ISO 25964 and SKOS/SKOS-XL models" document can be accessed at [4] and aims
at replacing the previous table presented in the SKOS Primer [5].

    We therefore suggest to add the following erratum to the SKOS Primer [6]:
