http://www.w3.org/TR/skos-reference/ says:

"S11: skos:prefLabel, skos:altLabel and skos:hiddenLabel are each 
sub-properties of rdfs:label."

"5.6.1.: no domain is stated for skos:prefLabel ... using the properties 
skos:prefLabel ... to label any type of resource is consistent with the 
SKOS data model."

In general you say more if you use rather specific properties. It's then 
the task of a reasoner to compute the generalization.

If one is sure he or she intends the meaning which is connotated with 
the skos namespace: Why not use it?
