Yes, but when you depend on custom properties you pave the way for all sorts of individual developments which may lead to incompatibility and difficulty in exchanging data. At the least, software will have to be adjusted to handle each customised format. >> restrictive business practices >> SN: For restrictions on market entry USE market entry >> RT: market entry >> restrictions on market entry >> USE: market entry > >SKOS does not provide "non-descriptors" as stand-alone entries, so this >kind of hint could only be attached to <market entry> as an altLabel. But the point of having an altLabel is that someone can enter the system using it and will then be referred to the relevant concept, with its preferred label. I have shown the way this is presented in a conventional thesaurus, and any user interface for SKOS should have some equivalent. >(May be a good addition, but doesn't help at <restrictive business >practices>.) It would if the interface displays the scope note. Again I'm uncertain as to what extent we are considering systems for humans to read and understand or for computers to manipulate. >(And, by the way, there are forms of "use-instead" notes which cannot be >formalized at all - e.g. <industrial promotion> - For the promotion of >particular sectors or regions USE the corresponding descriptors). Yes, indeed, and a computer would have a problem in trying to interpret such a note, so this is clearly intended for humans.
