Re: Let's introduce ourselves

Hi Everyone,

My name is Lisa Snider, and I am a Canadian digital accessibility consultant with offices in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Halifax, Nova Scotia and Sackville, New Brunswick. I am also a person with multiple disabilities.

I been working with EPUB in different ways over the years. I tried to use it in a Federal government museum as an every-day business format. That was a few years ago, and we didn’t have the awesome Word to EPUB plug in from DAISY. I have also done many EPUB audits and training webinars for different clients in North America over the past 5 years, including for the wonderful people at NNELS (National Network for Equitable Library Service).

I am also a librarian and archivist in my spare time, so I know EPUBs a bit from the library end of things. I spent many (too many) years in the academic realm, and most publisher reps know me as the person who is asking, why aren’t your EPUBs or PDFs accessible? I am currently doing my PhD at Acadia University and Mount Saint Vincent University in Nova Scotia, focusing on academic documents and the lived experiences of people with cognitive, neurological, neurodiverse, learning and intellectual disabilities.

I am mainly a lurker, as I enjoy keeping up on what people are doing, where EPUBs are going, etc. I am a member of one or two other W3C groups relating to EPUBs. I still think that until browsers will open EPUBs (thanks EDGE for not doing that anymore, sigh!), we won’t get any major coverage outside of the academic realm, and that is something I would like to see!

Great to see the variety of people in the group!

Cheers

Lisa
