Re: Work on the Web Accessibility Presentations and Training

Hello everyone,

Until I can make time to finally do my part with this resource - thanks so much Vivienne for the amazing work you've done so far - can we try to add in Stéphane to the effort? He has about two months before he gets swamped again, so if you could pull him in and help on this review, it would be fantastic. I just can't dedicate the time to wrap my head round everything that's been done so far, but Vivienne, if you need anything specific from us, then maybe Stéphane can help... until Andrew and myself can also begin.

/Denis

Hi again all

While you’re probably sick of receiving updates, I did want to get this together before tonight’s meeting.

I’ve now finished going through all of the 2nd page (Accessibility Topics) of the resource for Developing Presentations and Training. There were 18 resources shown and each have a myriad of links and paths.

In the attached document, please refer to the top of page 3 - headed “page 2 – topics for web accessibility presentations and training”. You will see that I have now addressed all 18 of the topics and looked (albeit quickly) at all of the presentations and links. It has taken way longer than I thought it would, but at least I’ve seen them all. Updating this resource is going to take a huge amount of time and some of the material will be probably not be usable due to last update dates. Much of it can be re-used once it has been reviewed carefully, but that will have to happen I think, after the migration to the new website.

I’m happy to discuss this in the meeting tonight, but wanted you all to have it up-front as you may have other thoughts, and may think that I’ve taken the wrong approach – I’m very open to other thoughts. After my discussion with Brent, we agreed that I’d plow through the information, and do a ‘quick and dirty’ evaluation. I wish it was ‘quick’, but it probably is ‘dirty’ ()

Thanks for bearing with me as I’ve attempted to get this done, and for your anticipated assistance.

Hi again
I worked on this material again today and am attaching the next segment in this email. As with the first instalment of the topics, many of them are very outdated and I’ve included notes here suggesting ones that should be updated, unfortunately it is many of them. Even if the content is ‘mostly’ okay, it needs to go through an update process and the dates amended to reflect that. I don’t think it is advisable to put content dated 2009 on a new website.

The notes here are for topics 9 through 13. If I can tomorrow, I will finish looking at Topics 14 through 18 and create part 3 of this analysis.

Subject: Work on the Web Accessibility Presentations and Training

Hi all

I have laboriously slogged through 1-8 of the List of Topics for Web Accessibility Presentations and Training (having already done a draft for the Overview). I’m attaching my working document (which is looking huge) where I’ve made notes on each of the resources I’ve looked at.
https://www.w3.org/WAI/training/topics#intro [https://www.w3.org/WAI/training/topics#intro]

After talking with Brent a week ago, it was decided that I’d start to review the resources and check all links to see if they are working and how outdated the materials were in each of them. In the attached document, I’ve done this for about half – and I won’t say how long this took (smiling).

What I’ve discovered is that the vast majority of the links will need to be updated, with a lot of the material dating from 2010 (or earlier). There are some current links and updates and these are largely okay, but need some additional information such as links to the tutorials, easy checks, perspectives videos etc. I’ve only found one link with no resource attached, but many of them point to resources that I don’t think are in use much any more.

I would appreciate some input at this point on what I’ve been doing so that I don’t waste a bunch of time on things that aren’t considered critical at this point.

Hi EOWG,

If editors need a proofreader next week, I’ll have one day for EOWG and don’t know which document is most urgent/needed. Feel free to get back to me either on this list or directly.

(Chairs: let me know if it’s not the right way to do things, I’m all ears of course.)

Have a great end of week.
