@kcoyle let's try to DCATize or FRBRize a bit the elements in the definition _"A resource which describes the nature of an artifact and the role it plays in relation to a profile" ;-) Roughly, the ResourceDescriptor is the resource that the artefact is a distribution/item of. This resource serves as an anchor for statements that relate to the artefact, but it's not a description itself. The same way as the resource of type prof:Profile is not really a description of the profile (rather, it represents the profile and is the subject of statements that together compose the description of the profile).
