By "new usage" I mean usage of the phrase "functional profile" to identify what you used to call a "realization" of conneg. But that's really beside the point. Your only argument here is clear, that profiles can have a meaning beyond data profiles. We all understand that. What I'm arguing for is thinking about what will help readers who are less familiar with profiles than we are to understand the specification. The goal of the document is not to teach them the possible uses of the term "profile"; it's to explain conneg by data profile specifically. A well crafted document anticipates potential points of confusion for readers.
