By enshrining the non-orthogonal treatment in the new spec, we make that question a perpetual one that people will have to deal with. Since there hasn't been an official spec before this, I'm surprised that we are addressing any kind of legacy behavior. Are there a lot of examples of people building their own conneg approaches that handle JSON-LD profiles as something other than MIME types?
