@aisaac I don't think it would be worse, both are hard to handle. The difference that I see is that in the case of sub-properties, if a publisher doesn't need additional precision or have no financial or human resources to go into the details, they can use the provided set of sub-properties which is cheap, while in the case of SKOS roles, even if they don't need additional precision, they need to use an existing or local vocabulary which involves someone creating and/or maintaining the SKOS vocabulary.
