Ok, both Europeana and DCAT-AP have made clear that their profiles are "flat" - that is, every profile is a stand-alone. There is logical semantic "inheritance" but no algorithmic inheritance is required or desired. That is one case for profiles, and it seems to be by far the predominant one. There is no "transitivitiy" to act on in these profiles. In fact, it would probably be inaccurate to say that every instance of DCAT-AP-x is a valid DCAT-AP, as some changes may have been made. For sure, other elements have been added that would not be valid in DCAT-AP. Therefore, they are not hierarchical, in the broader, narrower sense, and they are not transitive, as the changes would make them invalid.
