Re: DW WG: First call agenda and presentations

Dear all,

I should introduce myself too.

Background
==========
I got into W3C and the Semantic Web through working on online safety.
That lead me eventually to chair the working group that developed a Sem
Web standard called POWDER (whose day may yet come!). An expected
application of that technology at the time was in making mobile-friendly
Web sites more easily discoverable and I spent a lot of time in the
Mobile Web Best Practices WG [1] that I think will be a useful reference
for this new WG.

I joined the W3C Team in February 2009, initially to develop and run the
online training course we offer in mobile Web (based on the standards
I'd helped create). In 2011 I switched to working on eGovernment and, in
a bit of a re-organisation last month, took on the role of Data Activity
Lead which means I coordinate the WGs in what were the Semantic Web and
eGovernment activities, looking for new opportunities etc.

I work from home about an hour outside London.

Role in the WG
==============
My role as Team Contact is to support the chairs and the working group.
I'll advise on the W3C process, help manage the logistics etc. but it is
the chairs, not me or anyone else at W3C, who sets the agenda (literally
or metaphorically).

The origins of the WG go back to a workshop held in London in April 2013
[2]. Several themes emerged from that workshop, one of which, the work
to be done around tabular data, has lead to the formation of a separate
working group [3]. This WG is about most of everything else, in
particular, building the ecosystem for data on the Web.

Really looking forward to getting started.

Cheers

Phil.
