Not sure if this is useful, ( dejavu anyone?) But we started something similar a while back, we may want to start this where we left it? see original post http://groups.yahoo.com/group/humanitarian-ict/message/2476 Below a suggested process for discussion, further elaboration >>>FOR EXISTING TERMS, DO - STEP 1 - Gather existing glossaries/vocabularies already in use to source terms already in use (reference source please) STEP 2 - for each term: Evaluate, refine, purge, update, merge, create associations (who uses this term, why, how, etc), STEP 3 - Select most appropriate terms and relevant definition(s) as a preferred/recommended standards (any individual involved in the vocabulary effort should participate in this step) STEP 4 - Industry experts as well as community representatives comment and make recommendation (consultation/review period) STEP 5 - Incubator validates the term and recommends it for adoption as a standard >>>FOR NOVEL/NOT YET IN USE TERMS (define steps) <REPEAT> <http://1.2.3.4>1,2,3,4,5<until> everybody is happy THEN DO STEP 5 STEP 5 - Implementation and maintenance Use the standard terms when developing a system/programm, and provide feedback to w3 when term in use changes CONCLUSION The process above aims to support consistency of data and knowledge representation formalisms and terminology across development and that is made transparent to community and user also provides opportunity for user and community feedback to shape and model the system processes SUGGESTED PROCESS ENDS// Discuss, amend, etc...
