The DPub Accessibility group is embarking on a new task: looking over existing ATAG, WCAG, and UAAG guidelines to see if there are any ways in which techniques or examples should be modified or expanded upon to include examples unique to digital publishing. Additionally, we will be creating a document about how to address accessibility in digital publishing, which references all of those guidelines. We will be doing this work in conjunction with the appropriate people on the ATAG, WCAG, and UAAG teams. We are looking for DPub members who are willing to commit approximately 1 hour a week to this task, give or take. For those of you who have been part of the DPub accessibility work in the past, this is a fine time to step back if you don't think you can offer any kind of time commitment. For those of you who have not been working on accessibility tasks and did not get weighted down with copious action items at TPAC, now is a great time to be an accessibility hero. Virtual pom-poms and cheerful links to kitten videos are available to anyone who is willing to commit some time to this effort. If you are interested, please contact me and Charles LaPierre (charlesl@benetech.org) by the end of this week, Friday 7th of November. Also, when you contact us, could you let us know what time zone you are in? Once we have a sense of the geographical location of our volunteers, we can schedule a kickoff meeting at an appropriate time. Thanks so much, Deborah Kaplan Safari Books Online
