This is different than adding noise, though. It's creating a artificial skew, which attackers wrongly identify as entropy, and which changes over long periods of time. Seems it has different characteristics though: allows higher accuracy but might require manual calibration (maybe it actually doesn't require calibration in some scenarios we care about, e.g. relative orientation).
