We probably need at least 3-5 good DID Methods... but do we need 20+ DID Methods? Probably not. > 3. Are there nuances in including a certain did method as a work item vs > not including another? Yes, absolutely, and I expect some will be tough calls that need a community discussion. > How would you decide which did methods could be official CCG work items? As a general rule, answering "Yes" to these questions might be a good indicator for a community DID Method: 1. Does this DID Method provide value to the broader community than the ones suggesting CCG take on the work? 2. Are multiple implementers wanting to use the DID Method in production and are there interoperability challenges that need to be overcome for doing so? 3. Are we sure this isn't some sort of veiled "I'm building applications for my ledger so I can get rich" play? 4. Are we sure that the proposers aren't looking for this community to rubber stamp the DID Method? 5. Are we sure this community isn't being used as a marketing tool by taking on the DID Method? Aside from the regular checklist, there might be an easy checklist that we go down that makes it easy to make this decision. So, DID Methods that should be in scope: did:key, did:web, and *possibly* did:pkh DID Methods that should be out of scope: did:sov, did:v1, did:ion, and did:btcr > 4. Are there activities you would like included as part of CCG work > activities that currently are not? We should have a discussion where we try to re-focus our efforts every year or two, figure out what the community wants to achieve in 2022, 2024, etc. > 5. How should we as a community decide which items to include as community > work items or to leave outside the scope of the CCG? Really, it's "who is willing to do the work and are they continuing to do the work to move the item forward". We don't want to stop people from doing work, but at the same time, we don't want vocal minorities to derail the groups ability to get stuff done by opening a bunch of work items and then meeting about them but not moving them forward. -- manu -- Manu Sporny - https://www.linkedin.com/in/manusporny/ Founder/CEO - Digital Bazaar, Inc.
