Simplified HDR-in-Canvas proposal for review

Good morning/evening,

As you may have noticed, Chris Cameron has revised (and significantly
simplified) the HDR-in-Canvas strawman:

The strawman is not intended to be a final specification, but to offer
a starting point/baseline for prototyping, which will hopefully start
towards early summer, unless fatal issues are found.

I expect we will briefly review the strawman during our Monday's call,
but do not expect significant decisions given the short amount of time
available for review.
