I don't think that argument holds water: Using that logic, why have an <audio> tag at all? Media players already can handle MP3, WAV, etc. I can't understand why people resist supporting MIDI in the <audio> tag. To us, it seems like a slam dunk, since MIDI is one of the oldest and most mature formats. The first browser that does support MIDI in the <audio> tag is going to have a leg up on its competitors.
