Ivan, could you explain a bit more about why making the intermediate resources explicit becomes much more "spaghetti looking"? If anything I'd say they provide a valuable access point for annotating intermediate granular states of the target. Which would allow for some graceful fallback if your annotation client cannot render all of an annotation, e.g., the annotation targets a specific spatial portion of a youtube video within a particular time interval but the client only supports segmenting by time. [Side note: This isn't the first time that nesting doll structures have been suggested for selectors.
