Schema.org Custom Queries

From my perspective, the key point of Chris' message is that, while
custom Google queries can be built based upon the Schema.org vocabulary,
that vocabulary does not address the required elements for strategic and
performance plans and reports, which are specified in the StratML standard.

It has been suggested that we form a W3C CG to work to incorporate the
StratML core into Schema.org and I am certainly open to doing so.
However, my impression is that the Schema.org folks may be hostile to
such an initiative and I have not seen much evidence of support.

It seems to me that our time and efforts might be better spent working
toward the development of new, more innovative, and better services,
rather than being bound by constraints imposed upon us by the incumbent
powers that be. Perhaps that's merely because I happen to live in the
"land of the free and the home of the brave."

Thank you for the email
I need a bit of time to digest the content but... why are we not copying
the list?
Can we have these discussions on the list? At a minimum these important
exchanges
would be in the archive. otherwise we may lose them with time
Unless you have a reason otherwise, please cc the list (I can forward
the last couple of mails I received). I ll digest the stuff and get
back to you soon

    Paola,

I promised earlier to send you details of my brief and unsatisfying
attempt to build an onotological search of StratML documents. This
is adapted from an email I had sent to Owen at the time.

     1. Its not actually using StratML. It uses Schema.org.
StratNavApp.com allows me to export any strategy and performance
plans in both StratML and Schema.org format from the same data
source which is handy. The Schema.org schema is a very poor
second to StratML for our purposes. But it did allow me to set
        up this experiment.
     2. I have set up a google custom query based on Schema.Org Person
        and/or Organization types here:
        https://cse.google.com/cse?cx=001681981825345215165:63kdx0f8nkg
     3. If I search on, say "Owen Ambur" then about the 6th item on the
search results is a reference to an HTML Schema.Org marked-up
copy of the "Center for Open Science (COS) Strategic Plan 2017 -
2020 with Programs & Performance Indicators". (It may not be
exactly the 6th item for you as Google does tend to vary results
from user to user and from time to time, but it will be up there.
     4. Its only number 6 because a few other sites, like Linkedin also
        use Schema.Org markup.
     5. If I do the same search on regular Google (see for example
        https://www.google.com/search?q=owen+Ambur&rlz=1C1CHBF_enGB878GB878&ei=zFohXriqAs-M1fAP3N-KyAs&start=0&sa=N&ved=2ahUKEwi4wM-dh4rnAhVPRhUIHdyvArk4RhDy0wN6BAgLEC4&cshid=1579244415567749&biw=1920&bih=937)
then you will note that that search result does not show up at
all in the 8 pages of results returned. Sadly Google does not
'rate' the reports my app produces yet!
     6. This shows that the custom search, using the Schema.Org is doing
a better job of finding Schema.Org marked up content.

As you can see, this falls far short of being a useful solution.

If you have any pointers to something better I am sure we'd all be
very interested to learn more about it.

    Kind Regards,
    Chris

Carl & Paola, if Chris is agreeable, it seems to me that it
might be beneficial at our next meeting on March 24 for him
to share his screen while we discuss and he edits the
performance plan for our group in real-time.

I would certainly be agreeable to that.

I'm not sure how his app might react if we were all logged
on and editing simultaneously during the meeting.

Yes, that sort of simultaneous multi-user access is exactly the
sort of thing that StratNavApp.com is designed to support. To be
clear, different users can edit different parts of the same plan
at the same time. However, if two or more users try to edit the
same part of the same plan at the same time, then only one of
them will be able to edit with the others seeing that part of
the plan in 'read-only' mode. This is to prevent updates
overwriting each other. Once the first user is finished, then
the other users can, of course, go ahead and make their own
changes. I can demonstrate this capability at our next meeting
        if there is an appetite.

However, in the meantime, it seems to me that we should all
feel free to edit and comment on the shell draft of the plan
            that Carl previously proposed, at
            https://www.stratnavapp.com/Projects/413d648b-bd36-418d-af74-e15b0cd8281d

For example, Carl, it would be good if you could either
incorporate in that draft the points you displayed today or
create a new plan containing them, which could be the focal
            point for our next meeting.

Carl, as per my previous email, you can add any notes, etc. from
today's meeting in that plan at
        https://www.stratnavapp.com/Projects/413d648b-bd36-418d-af74-e15b0cd8281d/Meetings/158f484a-f3c4-4ad3-9082-b02bd85264d4 where
you will see I also tried to capture some actions as we were
        talking.

The broader plan for the AIKR CG is available in Chris' app
            at
            https://www.stratnavapp.com/Projects/b3dff87d-bb39-4ef3-b513-c5183d5c8e7c

Owen, you will need to share that project with the individual
members of this group before they will be able to access it.

As Chris mentioned, I have a whole bunch of StratML
documents (>4,000) that can be used to demonstrate
            query/discovery services, at
https://stratml.us/drybridge/index.htm The URLs for all of
them are available in sitemap format at
            https://stratml.us/sitemap.xml

Carl, with reference to our interchange regarding use cases,
the StratML use cases that have been documented thus far are
available in StratML Part 1 format at
            https://stratml.us/carmel/iso/UC4SwStyle.xml and the tool,
app, and service requirements are documented at
            https://stratml.us/carmel/iso/SMLTASwStyle.xml

I see you have added AI to the list of use cases as Goal 30. It
seems from our conversations that you could add an additional
cole to document the goals and objectives of role profiles (as
we propose doing for the AI Strategist).

Paola, with reference to your comment about the need for
notifications, see this requirement: Deadline Reminders
            <https://stratml.us/carmel/iso/SMLTASwStyle.xml#_15447dd4-208f-11e6-a80e-7333871eb3cb>
            - Provide notification of impending end dates for
performance indicators. The StratML schema supports the
necessary data, but as far as I am aware, no services yet
take advantage of that data to provide notices to stakeholders.

StratNavApp.com does notify stakeholders when a performance
indicator is due for its next measurement instance. This feature
is fairly basic in its ambition but it could certainly be
expanded upon if the need arose.

Usage of the stratml:Relationship elements is demonstrated
in this draft of the comprehensive plan for my community:
            https://connectedcommunity.net/hhi/StaffDraft/OPDT.xml#_5e71c342-8e51-11e9-9a35-540165babdf6
(The links open in a new browser tab.)

Owen, for transparency, I should probably remind you that the
StratML Relationship is only partly implemented in
StratNavApp.com. You may recall we've discussed the reasons for
this in the past. You can embed hyperlinks directly into
description fields as a workaround. Maybe this will finally
present me with a sufficient use case for completing this
        implementation.

        Kind Regards,
        Chris
