Hi All, I was tasked this week to search through our archives for information related to TAG issue #476<https://github.com/w3ctag/design-reviews/issues/476> regarding comments on 24 Sep 2020 from Alice She stated, “distraction=sensory is a slight exception to this, but has strong overlap with the prefers-reduced-motion media query - could its intended uses be covered by that existing technology?”. After we responded to her inquiry, it appeared that the media query question remained as an outstanding issue. Below are the relevant findings: 19 Oct 2020 Personalization Meeting Minutes<https://www.w3.org/2020/10/19-personalization-minutes#item01> - TPAC and other updates Becky reported on the TAG meeting: ... they want to engage more, also pronunciation TF ... they want us to reach out more communities to get more feedback ... epub also interesting our work ... want to have another round meeting ... we need update our explainer 16 Nov 2020 (original issue 476) Alice was still concerned about distraction and mentioned prefers-reduced-motion media query again. WAI Personalization Meeting Minutes 11/30/2020<https://www.w3.org/2020/11/30-personalization-minutes#item02> – We discussed Alice’s comments and to address her concerns, on 30 Nov 2020 we created issue “Content Module 1 - Distraction values and examples need to be updated w3c/adapt#170<https://github.com/w3c/adapt/issues/170>”. Note: Issue #170 was closed without being implemented. 26 Jan 2021 (original issue 476) atanassov pointed out, there are already a number of media features that are intended to improve user preferences<https://drafts.csswg.org/mediaqueries-5/#mf-user-preferences>. He also encouraged us to open a new issue with the CSSWG in their repo explaining the user problem, proposal and the overlap with MQ5 to get their attention and help solve the set of overlapping features between Personalization and MQ5.
