There's a potential transition problem brewing concerning Content-Encoding. The few browsers I have access to (Mosaic 2.6, Netscape 1.1, 2.0) understand Content-Encoding: x-gzip, but not gzip. Browsers have to start understanding x-gzip and gzip (and x-compress and compress) as synonyms PRONTO! Otherwise servers will for a long time have to be configured to send x-gzip (x-compress), because that's what most browsers understand. Can anyone identify browsers that understand gzip and compress?
