Gecko based browsers (Firefox, Camino, SeaMonkey) already support the property (since Gecko 1.9.0 on all platforms). Modulo some bugs, it works well there.

I've been using it to minimise the reflow when the downloadable font finally kicks in and it helps to a certain extend, assuming that the em-width of the fall-back font also matches that of the downloadable font.

I noticed yesterday that the woff generator @ Font Squirrel now calculates the aspect ratio of the uploaded fonts. Nice little detail.
