I suspect it is possible in principle to change the role of an element dynamically; it's undoubted possibly to change any of the content or structure. I'm just not aware of any current uses that change role, and it was not in the UAAG1 requirements. Perhaps we can generalize: <proposal> Any change made to content via the user interface, including changes to state and value, can also be made programmatically </proposal>
