No, and I'm happy to let the editors turn it into spec speak.
I'm unsure if PDF is 'seen' as an image or .... something else.
E.g. what if I'm using a PS output?
What if the 'page image' is A4 and I'm using US letter? etc.

I beg to differ. Implementers add features from paying customer requests.
It is then clearly non-standard, an extension.

I'd like to see PDF page inclusion within the remit of the spec.

Maybe. I've not seen any such requests.

I'll bow to the editors here. I have seen that on the docbook list.
