The schema for XHTML published at http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/NOTE-xhtml1-schema-20020902/ is invalid, because it uses regex patterns that have been outlawed by errata to the XML Schema specification. The schema validator in Saxon [1] consequently rejects this schema. This is a little embarrassing, since one of the main benefits of schema-aware XSLT processing is to validate that the output of a stylesheet conforms to a required schema, and for many stylesheets, that schema is XHTML. Does anyone know if there are plans to publish a corrected XHTML schema? I can do it easily enough myself, but one would prefer something official.
