xsi:type for using a more restrictive type

Hello all,

I am trying to find an example in which the attribute xsi:type would be
useful for a type derived by restriction, but I do not see any reason of
using "xsi:type" to change the type of an element to a more restrictive one.

Does anybody of you know an example in which using "xsi:type" for
substituting a type by one of the types that restrict it would be useful.

Thanks,

Michael Marchegay.
