i often open a README.TXT to find "here is the latest version of xyz widget" along with a list of enhancements, improvements and so on, but not one line explanation of what xyz is or why i should want to use it, so i sigh and leave its delights unknown... ...and similarly for announcements to this list!!! please don't assume that everyone knows what your widget is or why they might be interested in it, and remember that many of us don't have the time to go and find out what every new thing is. even people who've seen it before may appreciate a reminder, and anyone searching past posts will have more success finding and understanding relevant announcements. so please.... ...include a short abstract describing what it is you are announcing, preferably with a couple of lines about when and why someone might use it/not use it, and of course a link to more detailed information. i recommend that this information be concise and very near the top, where it is immediately visible for people who don't know the product and easily skipped by someone who knows it already. thanks mark -- Agile HTML Editor Agilic Corporation http://www.agilic.com PS I wrote the above for the perl-xml list at activestate.com but hope people don't mind my cross-posting to other lists I use which also feature product release/update announcements.
