I think there are only two aspects to this problem which are really important to me: 1. Every application using or built on XML should use the same definition for name equivalence, and it's the job of the NS REC to supply this definition. 2. Whatever resolution is arrived at should not force vendors with user bases and deployed software to declare independence from the W3C. None of "literal", "make absolute" or "forbid" cause any difficulties for _my_ current or anticipated applications, provided they do not force compromise on either of the above. -- Cheers, John
