I strongly endorce the comments of Elliotte Harold and James Abley that this change can not be made under the guise of an editorial "edition". It is a good change but you should change the version number. Apart from requiring changes in XML parsers, many other specifciations make use of the name production and by changing it inplace you are making implementations of those systems non conformant. Xpath (1 and 2) for example. Similar comment already made here http://norman.walsh.name/2008/02/07/xml105e but repeated here for the record.
