The formulation in 4.4.5 "When an entity reference appears in an attribute value, or a parameter entity reference appears in a literal entity value, its replacement text is processed in place of the reference itself as though it were part of the document at the location the reference was recognized" seems to need a clearification, since the replacement text is not literally treated as though it were part of the document at that place, because 4.3.2 and E70 make it clear, that only the replacement text as a whole is considered. Since 4.4 IMO should give some kind of standalone overview of what an XML processor is doing, it would be good to add a sentence to 4.4.5 which repeats what is stated in 4.3.2 and E70. And maybe the formulation in 4.4.2 "in the usual way" should be replaced by a more detailed one, too. -- ===================================================================== Dieter Koehler, M.
