Mark, Thank you for your note setting forth the requirements that WSA is suggesting for our continuing work on SOAP [1]. The XMLP workgroup is indeed giving these careful attention, and we will be keeping you informed of our progress. The purpose of this note is to seek clarification on two particular items. The first is regarding the second requirement: "* Delivery of a one-way SOAP Message Exchange Pattern and corresponding HTTP Binding, such as that proposed by David Orchard [2], and required by the Web Services Description Working Group." Taken literally, this appears to specifically require the development of a new binding with one-way semantics, and of course associated HTTP binding support. During XMLP discussions some members suggested that the requirement was not intended to be taken quite so narrowly, and that the WSA's needs might also be met by other means. For example, one alternative under discussion would be to revise the existing SOAP Request-Response Message Exchange Pattern to make the inclusion of a SOAP envelope optional in the response. We would very much appreciate early clarification as to whether the WSA intends the requirement to be read literally, and thus to specifically require a new one-way MEP, or whether other approaches might also be acceptable. The second item is a small correction. We believe that item 3 of your request erroneously points to http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/xmlp-comments/2005Aug/0000.html rather than to http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/xml-dist-app/2005Aug/0011.html Can you verify this.
