REST and SOAP

As many of you distApp readers may be aware, there has been a spirited
discussion on the W3C TAG (Technical Architecture Group) mailing list [1]
regarding the role of REST [2] on the Web. A particular point of concern
has been whether SOAP is consistent with REST. Several people have made
proposals, and I posted one at [3] this morning. For some reason, it seems
to be stuck in the mail reflector -- it's in the archives but as of a few
minutes ago nobody had received it.

Since not everyone on distApp reads www-tag, I thought I'd point out my
proposal. Indeed, were it not for the involvement of the Tag, this would
be a subject for discussion on distApp. As it is, I suggest discussion of
my proposal (and the others) on the Tag list, but note some of the
guidelines for proper use of that list...it's not a free-for-all.
Discussion should be to the point, and focussed on helping the tag to
figure out how SOAP fits with REST. If this gets into a major protocols
design discussion, we'll probably have to figure out how to move it to
distApp. Thanks.
