XML XP Working Group update

As you probably already are aware of, the XML Protocol Working Group is
operating differently than most W3C working groups in the past, in that work
on the specification will be done in public. We will be soliciting input on
different aspects of the specification. I have volunteered to act as a
facilitator on the public list to help focus the group on specific topics
that may be currently under discussion.

Where we are:

The Working Group met recently to start the work on crafting a requirements
document. A list of requirements was generated and we are now working on
putting these requirements in prose. Once the requirements are captured in
prose, this document will be made public. We will make this public by mid
November.

In order to best utilize our bandwidth and resources, various issues will be
opened for discussion on the mailing list. It would be best for the process
if list contributors stay on-topic as to what issues are being discussed. We
are trying to move quickly, and this will allow everyone to focus in on
specific problems and generate the best solution to them. We have used this
process in some of the larger Working Groups with good success. Given that
the number of people contributing technical input will be much larger in
Protocol, please respect these guidelines so that any contributions get the
attention they deserve.
