z39.50 and images

Hello All,
I am going to build a distributed query layer for a cross-collection search system for art galleries and museums (http://www.artisteweb.org/). The Artiste system prototype already uses RDF schemas to provide seamless access to diverse multiple collections within the system and the main purpose of this distributed query layer is to enable interoperability with other cultural heritage information resources. Supporting the z39.50 information retrieval protocol is an obvious option and I I have been following ZING SR developments with interest.
However I am aware that the majority of z39.50 targets are digital libraries in the traditional sense of holding textual data. Artiste combines images and metadata. Queries can be composed using images and/or textual metadata and the result set produced by a query contains images and metadata. I would like to hear from the z39.50 community if there are any existing z39.50 targets which execute searches against databases containing images? For example are there any servers which support the CIMI schema's mrObject and rendition elements and use then to return images as part of the result set?
Best Regards,
Alison
