To Z39.50 Implementors Group (ZIG) For discussion at December ZIG Meeting Proposal: How to handle retrieval of Holdings We have in danZIG discussed how to handle retrieval of Holdings and we agreed on this method: In PresentRequest is included the element recordComposition, which is a choice between simple and complex. Simple is used for the traditional F(ull) or B(rief). When using complex it is possible to state an OID (here 1.2.840.10003.13.7.1 for Z39.50 Holdings Schema - version 1.1) and an elementSetName. The elementSetName is not defined as anything specific. In the ASN-1 code it is only specified that it shall be an InternationalString. Our proposals for the elementSetName: HoldingsESN-B1 HoldingsESN-B2 HoldingsESN-B3 HoldingsESN-B4 HoldingsESN-C1 HoldingsESN-C2 HoldingsESN-C3 HoldingsESN-C4 As they are defined as B1, B2, B3, B4, C1, C2, C3 and C4 in the Z39.50 Holdings Schema. This is our proposal, but we are, of course, open to other solutions. This proposal can be used when sending a Present to a target with both bibliographic records and holding records behind the target and targets with only holding records behind the target. Best regards danZIG The Danish Z39.50 Implementors Group Leif Andresen Secretary of danZIG
