To Z39.50 Implementors Group (ZIG) For discussion at Closing Plenary, Friday, December 8 at December ZIG Meeting Proposal to deprecate OPAC Record Syntax (102) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- When you go to the Maintenance Agency web site and look for Record Syntax for Holdings, you can find | 1.2.840.10003.5.102 | OPAC | OPAC Records | with a link to RecordSyntax-opac {Z39-50-recordSyntax opac (102)} with ASN-1 DEFINITIONS. But not a word about Z39.50 Holdings Schema, which in practice replaces OPAC 102. Because of that this proposal for an official ZIG deprecation of OPAC Record Syntax (102). This doesn't make existing implementations of 102 illegal, but is a signal to new implementors of Z39.50. We propose to add this text in connection with | 1.2.840.10003.5.102 | OPAC | OPAC Records | in Registry of Z39.50 Object Identifiers: Note to new implementors: this RecordSyntax is deprecated. Please use Z39.50 Holdings Schema. Best regards danZIG The Danish Z39.50 Implementors Group Leif Andresen Secretary of danZIG PS: Personally I know one system vendor making mistakes in this area.
