ah intesting. MathPlayer? 
Can you just throw in inline mml namespaced stuff anywhere a la
xmltex/passivetex or do you need to wrap in an
fo:instream-foreign-object? (just asking to know what is and is not
portable).

you mean if you refer to tex math fragments from the fo document?
Hmm it wouldn't be too hard to support mathml, if it can cope with some
er, entertaining tex re-definitions they could just stuff in xmltex.tex
and have the tex engine read mathml directly (on a good day), it doesn't
currently produce the best quality output though (even using tex) I should
fix that one day...)
