Dear XML Schema WG, The XML Schema spec goes a long way to reflect all the features in DTDs (except entities). This is relevant for backwards compatibility. In order to keep XML technology lean for the future, the XML Schema WG, in collaboration with W3C in general, should identify (not necessarily in the specs) the features that: - Are rarely used in general - Should not be used in future W3C technology As an example, XML allows the use of PIs, but there is no intent of W3C to use PIs in future work. This was only documented after it was found out that some people wanted to use it, while others thought that it was clear that it was obsolete. Such 'surprises' should be avoided. Candidates include ID/IDREF/ENTITY/NOTATION and derived types in part 2, and probably other things. Regards, Martin.
