Dear XML Schema WG, XML Schema is designed to make all kinds of contributions to the schema-validated infoset. The distinction between validating and non-validating XML parsers has proven to be unsatisfactory; a third category (not fully validating but doing entity expansion and in particular default attribute instantiation) has been proposed, based on the experience with the use of XML. I have not found any consideration of this aspect in XML Schema part 1/2, and I think this is a serious problem that should be fixed. This should allow conformant lightweight clients that do not loose essential information while not checking every detail. Regards, Martin.
