Thank you for taking the trouble to solicit my response to this proposed
resolution. First of all, I would not want to do anything to obstruct the
progress of the Infoset specification, and can live with either the
proposed resolution or probably a variety of others.
That said, I think there remain problems with the proposed resolution,
specifically, the phrase:
>> the point we want to retain is that it is only
>> for such [I.e textual] documents that this spec
>> specifies the infoset
Let's say I create an empty DOM on my program, and then use the DOM API's
to add element and attribute nodes. I pass the resulting DOM to some
other program, perhaps as input to an XSLT transform. I then free up the
DOM. This is a case in which the document has never existed in
well-formed "<...>" syntax. Are you really intending to say, and indeed
to emphasize, that your infoset specification does not cover this case? I
would find that tremendously disappointing. Indeed, this is an extremely
common scenario in database server applications, and I would have thought
it was one of the key reasons we need an infoset.
So, I would prefer to see a really clear signal that such scenarios are
first class, indeed very important examples of infoset usage. Lacking
concensus on such emphasis, I would suggest at least that nothing be done
to suggest that they are not at least covered.
Again, if I am an outlier on this, I am willing to let it go, but my
honest opinion is that it is a quite important point. Thank you all in
any case for your concern. I apologize for the slow response, but I am
recently back from vacation. Thanks.

Clarify intro which suggests that infosets must come from textual
documents
We will see if we can clarify the introduction to remove any
suggestion that infosets *must* come from textual documents (the point
we want to retain is that it is only for such documents that this spec
specifies the infoset).
