Sorry to send this to the WG list. (I cannot send a comment to the comments list about a future WD.) There seems to be an error in the new infoset draft due out on the 20th. In the informativbe appendix B, 10. A validating XML processor must supply the default value of attributes declared in the DTD for a given element type but not appearing in the element's start tag (5.2). suggests (by omission) that a non-validating processor does not need to supply default values. However XML 1.0 says "they (non-validating processors) must use the information in those declarations to normalize attribute values, include the replacement text of internal entities, and supply default attribute values." s5.1 (The only restriction to this is if the DTD contains a reference to a parameter entity *and* standalone!="yes") Cheers, Rick Jelliffe
