I think that there is a small conflict between XML Information Set and the review of XML 1.0 from the I18N WG. "Internationalization Review of XML" http://www.w3.org/International/Group/1998/12/NOTE-i18n-rev-xml-19981221#CDATA The data model to be developed for XML should make it explicit that CDATA marked sections are syntactic devices that have no effect on the data model or intended structure of an XML document. However, the Info Set WD says: >A character information item may also have the following properties >available in some form: ... >3.An indication of whether the character was included literally, as a >character reference, as part of a CDATA section, or through one of the >predefined XML entities. I would propose to drop this para, since it hampers code conversion. Cheers, Makoto Fuji Xerox Information Systems Tel: +81-44-812-7230 Fax: +81-44-812-7231 E-mail: murata@apsdc.ksp.fujixerox.co.jp
