Dear all, sorry to be that late in the process, but taking into account that I consider this a minor issue, I hope it isn't too late. in August, Denis Pinkas sent in his 35 comments[1]. In comment 24 he asked the Working Group to include XAdES[2]. The response was, that XAdES is only a Note and not a Recommendation[3]. It says: > The wg felt that referencing a Note in that way conflicts with > our goal for xkms to become a recommendation. When the XAdES > specification becomes a (type of) recommendation then the wg > would consider this. I was the team-contact that acknowledged the XAdES-Submission by CISCO. Please see my team-comment for the whole background[4]. Already from the status of the document of XAdES[2], it is obvious, that this has a different background than the more common member-submissions. It was a way to acknowledge the work that was done on European Electronic Signatures[5] within ETSI[6] under the umbrella of EESSI-WG[7] of ICTSB[8]. XAdES is equivalent to TS 101 933 which is an XML-Version of TS 101 733, both formal ETSI standards. After the acknowledgement by the Art. 9 Group of the Directive, those will be published (with minor modifications that will be also taken to XAdES) in the official journal of the european union as binding standards with legal effects. It would be beneficial for all of us, if you could elaborate, why you fear that mentioning XAdES in the 5.1.3 Element <UseKeyWith> [180] would conflict with the goal to get to Recommendation? In any case, it would help the situation of e-commerce, if XAdES could be taken into account as we expect this format will gain some importance in the future. Sorry again for being late, it was hidden in some procmailed folder that I don't consult very often. 1. http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-xkms/2003May/0006.html 2. http://www.w3.org/TR/XAdES/ 3. http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-xkms/2003Aug/0032.html 4. http://www.w3.org/Submission/2003/01/Comment 5. http://europa.eu.int/smartapi/cgi/sga_doc?smartapi!celexapi!prod!CELEXnumdoc&lg=EN&numdoc=31999L0093&model=guichett 6. http://portal.etsi.org/Portal_common/bottom.asp?Register=&tbid=607&SubTB=607&TAB_ID=&Param= 7. http://www.ictsb.org/EESSI_home.htm 8. http://www.ictsb.org/home.htm Best, -- Rigo Wenning W3C/ERCIM Policy Analyst Privacy Activity Lead mail:rigo@w3.org 2004, Routes des Lucioles http://www.w3.org/ F-06902 Sophia Antipolis
