To continue this - I am Gerald Edgar and I will be the Boeing representative to the web services architecture effort. I am in the Boeing Commercial Airplane IS e-Business and Architecture group. I have been in software development for the some time now, and for the last 8 years I have been involved in web application architecture and development, as well as designing software for the web. As part of my position, I am involved in establishing standards for application development, as well as consulting with application architects to help them develop applications that will deploy smoothly here in our computing environment. For the last 3 years I have been involved in establishing XML infrastructure here at Boeing, For the last 2 years I have been looking at web services and have helped others test their use. Last year I presented a position paper at the w3c's web service workshop on web services. Here in Boeing we currently have production applications that are using the stable portions of web services. For me there are two major issues in using web services: first is that they carry through on their potential for interoperability across platforms, second is the need for robust security when using web services in order to protect resources. I look forward to working with the group! Gerald W.
