I agree: support for contains must be optional. I vote for the error response (as opposed to treating it as unknown). This just strikes me as simpler. Also, a query engine can always always advertise support to the seach arbiter for the contains operator and then implement it as "unknown". So, by using an error response we actually still allow both behaviors. Thanks, Saveen
