The SSML subgroup of the Voice Browser Working Group held its fifth meeting in Beijing on April 24-26, 2007. Hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the meeting included attendees by Toshiba, Panasonic, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, IBM, iFLYTEK, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, France Telecom, and Nuance. In this meeting we focused heavily on revising the new text for voice and xml:lang to address concerns raised in a review by the larger Voice Browser Working Group. The revised text is much clearer and includes defaults for the new attributes that we believe will assist authors transitioning from SSML 1.0. We also updated the text surrounding sub-word annotation based on feedback by the main body of the Voice Browser Working Group, reviewed all outstanding change requests, and began planning for the Last Call Working Draft and Candidate Recommendation phases. We have begun preparations for developing test assertions for the Implementation Report plan and expect to write some initial assertions before our next meeting. We expect to publish both an updated Working Draft of the specification and a revised Requirements document before our next meeting. Our next meeting will be held July 4-6, 2007 in Hangzhou, China.
