The SSML subgroup of the Voice Browser Working Group held its third meeting in Beijing October 17-19, 2006. Hosted by Nokia, the meeting included attendees by Toshiba, Panasonic, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, IBM, iFlyTek, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, France Telecom, Bhrigus, and Nuance. In this meeting we agreed to make some last-minute modifications to the Requirements document before publishing later this year. Specification changes we discussed included a new word-level annotation element, author control of lexicons, introduction of a pronunciation alphabet registry, a role attribute that can provide better linkage with the Pronunciation Lexicon Specification, and clarification wording around the interaction between xml:lang and the voice element. We expect to publish a first Working Draft of SSML 1.1 before the end of this year. Our next meeting will be held January 16-18, 2007 in Beijing. Dan Burnett, and Zhi Wei Shuang, Co-chairs, SSML 1.1 subgroup
